To conduct audits of the Bank's control environment for the PW &CC (focus on WM)) control environment in Spain and on occasional audit project assignments in European countries. The Auditor, based in Madrid, will be responsible for planning and execution of integrated end to end process audits, to evaluate business controls and to address control issues to various levels of management.

Role responsibilities

  • Plan and execute risk based audits to evaluate the adequacy and effectiveness of internal controls in the business.
  • Build and maintain constructive relationships with PBC management acting as a trusted business partner.
  • The Auditor will be a member of the PCC audit team based in Madrid, reporting into PCC Deputy Principal audit Managers and will work in a coordinated manner with Principal Audit Managers and Auditors and maintain an open dialogue.
  • Draft audit reports for review by the relevant Principal Audit Managers (PAM) or Deputy PAM.
  • Facilitate issue tracking and validate closure of issues.
  • Adhere to Group Audit Methodology, e.g. the risk assessment framework.

Audit work will include the following key areas (but will not be limited to):

  • Design and effectiveness of monitoring and processing controls with regards to the distribution processes of investment and insurance products to private and business banking clients (with focus on WM). Additionally, effectiveness of the control framework carried out by Compliance on securities products. Supporting global audit teams in Asset Management audits on the ground and limited participation in WM audits abroad in Europe.

Effectiveness of business controls of other areas as and when support is required according to GA Spain audit plan needs.

People management: N/A

We are seeking an audit professional who is a self starter and is able to operate at and communicate with various management levels of the Bank. The candidate will need to have a strong appreciation of risks and controls applicable to a global financial institution and have a clear understanding of how Group Audit can work with, and support the Private and Business Clients business. This will require:

Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, in Spanish and English (additional language skills such as Portuguese or German may be a plus) and ability to deal with people at various management levels.

Strong analytical skills combined with capacity to identify control weaknesses in a complex environment.

Understanding of business products and processes gained from working in banking environments, preferably in retail banking with prior exposure to investment products and or asset management distribution processes .

Dynamic, high level of own initiative, flexibility and resilience.

Ability to multi-task assignments and prioritise the workload with limited supervision and be able to deliver to deadlines.

The successful candidate will drive integrated working practices, take ownership and responsibility of agreed targets and meet them within budget.

Willingness to travel mainly within Spain (Madrid / Barcelona), Portugal and on occasional audit project assignments in Europe (e.g. UK and Germany).


University degree (or comparable).

CIA or equivalent internal audit certifications are a plus.


At least 2-3 years experience in internal audit, in the banking sector or Big Four audit firms

Working experience, including knowledge of process and control concepts in the following areas:

Auditing distribution processes of investment and insurance products in retail banking, Wealth Management and Asset Management areas.

Understanding of investment products families, complexity features and inherent risks.

Understanding of material regulations and guidelines in Spain securities products (also European regulations like MiFID).
